Founded in 1967 as not-for-profit 501c3, The Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society (PCGS) has been a community of members of all ages and accomplishments dedicated to supporting and encouraging classical guitar activities throughout the Delaware Valley.
PCGS MISSION
“The Primary purpose of the corporation is to engage in the instruction of the public on the subject of classical guitar music in a fashion which will be useful to the individual and beneficial to the community at large. In this connection, the corporation will promote and encourage the appreciation, study and performance of classical guitar music. As a secondary purpose, the corporation will promote and encourage appreciation, study and performance of other forms of guitar music and other musical instruments in general.”
The society presents monthly concerts, typically on the 2nd Sunday of the month with renewed and emerging classical guitar performers from October to May every year. From September to May we also conduct Guitar Salons and Classical Guitar Concert Ensemble rehearsals open to PCGS members and members of other regional classical guitar communities an opportunity to perform in front of each other individually or as ensembles and network.
Our annual programming culminates with the PCGS annual Classical Guitar Festival, usually over a weekend in April, full of activities including PCGS national competition semifinals and finals (high school and adult divisions), masterclasses, 100s of student recitals, big concert from a world renown artists, workshops, etc.
